Mission complete...from a patient's perspective. :-)

We got what was hopefully my last CT Scan guided needle biopsy done today, which was the last appointment for the week, and we plan to fly home tomorrow am.   Essentially, they once again ran the large core needle into the tumor in my lung to get biopsy samples for more lab work.  The risk with this procedure is a 30% chance of lung collapse which apparently sets a stage for staff amusement in the form of extended observation.

This seems to be a fun one for the medical community as it results in a game of wits where they begin with "NPO" (which is some kind of coded acronym which somehow stands for "nothing by mouth?") the night before combined with post procedure extended stay vs. human will power.   The idea is to see how "hangry" they can make each patient without sending the patient over the edge by missing timeline promises, IV vein misses, strategically placing tape to hold IVs on as much arm hair as possible, and not offering headache medications for those with caffeine withdrawal and starvation, due to fasting for no apparent reason.  While this may be a bit of a biased perspective, suffice it to say the procedure went well, however I was unsuccessful in outlasting the staff there in their game.   As a last ditch effort at resistance to succumbing to their bidding, I managed to acquire some delicious chic-a-filet and soda toward the end and laughed at the stale crackers and tap water they offered as an olive branch.

Heading home!    :-)
